Contractor was born from Mumbai in India she was raised in Nigeria from the time she was seven. She had already experienced a lot of travel and other cultures since a early age. Contractor was an outstanding student in Toronto and trained as a classical ballet dancer. At the Etobicoke School of the Arts (a public school for high schools that is specialized in arts) she studied dance and theatre. Contractor took the decision to study acting seriously at age 16 after almost 10 years of dancing. As she finished high school, she was offered a full scholarship for tuition to University of Toronto where she was a theatre student with a dual degree in psychology and Sociology. Contractor, who had spent a year in university, went on to audition at an open call for Pericles, at the prestigious Stratford Shakespeare Festival, [Ontario Canada] and won the part. She received rave reviews for her performances during the 92 performances that in the production. It was also voted the production of the year by Canadian critics in 2002. Contractor accepted the invitation to attend Stratford's Conservatory program. Only eight men selected and four females accepted for a 20-week intensive course in the classical theatre. Her place was guaranteed during the upcoming play She was also offered Hermia's part for the role of Hermia A Midsummer Night's Dream.
